Opportunity Onramps® at Workday is a program to launch your career in the technology industry. Through our Military & Veteran Program, we provide on-the-job training and mentorship, and through full time careers for transitioning Veterans and eligible Reserve Service Members. In addition, this role is open to those who are Career Returners with a recent 1.5-year break from their career and will be supported through the Career Returner Program. The pause may have been taken for a whole host of reasons including but not limited to: caregiving, illness, unemployment, covid-19 impacts, immigration, asylum or refuge seeking needs.
Workday provides a complete set of cloud spend management solutions that help customers streamline operations and control indirect spend. Procurement management software allows customers to create purchase requisitions, generate purchase orders, receive goods, process supplier invoices, and analyze spend—all in one system.

About the Role
As a Software Application Engineer, you'll tackle sophisticated problems, including the development and delivery of critically important global enterprise software using your expertise in design, coding, algorithms, and complexity analysis. Your primary focus will be to:
Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify software enhancements.
Take initiative, exhibit creative-thinking, have the drive to turn ideas into reality, displaying passion for user experience.
Solve challenging problems in an application related to performance, scalability, and resilience.
Design and develop an object-oriented product in a metadata-driven development environment.
Write reliable unit, integration, and system level tests that will run on our CD pipeline.
Mentor and learn from other team members through pairing, code reviews, knowledge sharing, Hackathons, etc.
About You
Basic Qualifications:
Transitioning US military Veteran or eligible member of the National Guard or Reserves. Cannot have been out of the military for longer than three years (exception is for those currently enrolled in a full-time educational program) OR a Career Returner with 3+ years of professional experience and must have a recent break from your career for 1.5 years.
Display a proven foundation in software engineering
Strong desire to learn and continuously improve your craft.
Experience in delivering web applications, SaaS (Software as a Service) or web services
Experience with object-oriented design patterns, class modeling, and UML
Other Qualifications:
Experience with unit testing tools like JUnit and/or other test-driven development tools
Experience with XML and integration technologies
Experience with agile methodologies

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations in the United States (US) are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
