We’re looking for backend engineers with travel experience to join our Flights team. You will join a fast-moving organization focused on providing an amazing end-to-end experience for our users traveling by air. We’re focused on making sure we have all the right content for our users to get them the best prices – that means building out NDC connections in addition to GDS connections. We want to make sure we’re helping users find the flights that are right for them – understanding their preferences and helping them through the booking process, whether they’re a road warrior trying to optimize their airline status or a first time traveler trying to find the lowest stress, most comfortable flight. When plans change, we want to make sure we can efficiently handle changes - whether the traveler just wants to go home a day earlier, or summer thunderstorms are wreaking havoc on airline hubs, we need to provide great, efficient service either way. To do that, we need engineers comfortable working in our Java codebase to deliver seamless user experiences leveraging as much of technology as we can, whether that’s GDS connections or leaning on LLM AI.

While we’d be happy to have you in our Palo Alto office, this position is also remote eligible.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work in our flights codebase building a seamless API layer across providers, whether that’s Sabre, Amadeus, or NDC connections directly to airlines and their providers
  • Designing and implementing APIs and core services
  • Ensure that our system scales as we add both users and complexity via additional providers
  • Mentor team members to help grow their careers and skills
  • Draw upon your experience to push architectural changes across our system, to improve our reliability, performance, and overall code health
  • Building out impactful product features across shopping and reshopping experiences, and providing timely day-of-travel information
  • Working with new technologies like LLM AI in addition to our Java codebase
  • Ensure the quality of the features you built, follow-up on usage/issues post release.
  • Work closely with product and design team to deliver new features that align with the needs of the business
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers on the team
  • Contribute and drive frameworks that lead to significant user experience improvements
  • Assist the team in understanding and adopting new technologies

What We're Looking For:

  • 10 years or equivalent quality experience, preferably in startup environments
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems serving developers and/or end users
  • Travel, airline or GDS experience is a must
  • Ability to be a innovative problem solver that can turn ambiguous problem spaces into clear solutions, and comfort with new technology and thinking outside the box to develop and implement solutions
  • Ability to influence without authority, working with technical and cross-functional teams who do not report into this role
