Job Description Summary:
What you need to know about the role: The Director – Chief of Staff promotes solid execution and fact-based decision-making across the organization; acting as the ‘connective tissue’ that links all aspects of the organization seamlessly. This role will work closely with the VP, Developer Productivity Engineering (DPE) to provide strategic support and operational oversight for the DPE organization and its leadership teams. This position will lead the operating rhythms, and liaise with the all-domain leaders on all aspects of day to day business operations, including: workforce strategy, investment decisioning, stream lining operations, strategic alignment, stakeholder communications, stakeholder engagement, program oversite, employee engagement, executive presentations, objective and key result management and long-term org strategy. Meet our team: The Developer Productivity Engineering organization delivers a suite of products, processes and services which PayPal engineers use every day to push code to production; DPE makes the SDLC journey seamless, efficient and delightful so PayPal engineers can do what they do best: deliver beautiful experiences and features for our customers! This role will ensure our operating model, OKR’s, investment plan and portfolio are designed and implemented to deliver against the defined strategy.

- The ideal candidate has proven experience working closely with executives, in a fast-paced environment; applying strong consultative skills, including business acumen, customer empathy, and the ability to collaborate and partner. This person thrives in a dynamic, global, fluid, matrix environment and is results-focused, able to drive execution through influence. Is comfortable leading from both the front and the rear, commanding respect from the leadership team as situations dictate. Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and/or software engineering fundamentals is preferred.
In your day-to-day role you will
- Operating rhythms and routines: Manage operating routines that facilitate decision-making, autonomy, leadership alignment, and team engagement, inclusive of staff meetings, operational reviews, leadership off sites, All Hands, etc. Set the agenda, document decisions, and communicate outcomes.
- Special project planning and execution: Serve as on-the-ground execution for a wide variety of cross-functional executive projects or day-to-day deliverables. Ability to navigate internal networks and build stakeholder relationships is important.
- Leadership extension to PayPal BizOps community: Act as an extension to the broader Business Operations (BizOps) community in managing relationships with other BizOps leaders and functions. Ensure bi-directional accountability on driving closure on requests and activities across the BizOps scope: communications, HR, training and development, engagement and culture, Technology Risk Management, Planning and Portfolio Management, IT Service Management, and events management. Coordinate with internal BizOps on financial governance, vendor management and workforce management.
- Strategic thinker: Provides outside-in thinking to the organization, highlighting industry trends that should be considered and evaluated. Brings in perspectives on organization design, recruiting strategies, budget/investment opportunities and technology trends.
- Organizational alignment: Ensure alignment across business units and internal within the organization. Works closely with the direct leadership teams and staff of the organization to cascade priorities, goals, vision and strategy, providing clarity to the enterprise.
- Outcome and metrics tracking/reporting: Work closely with leaders across the organization and partner teams to develop goals, KPIs/OKRs, and clear roadmaps. Comfortable slicing and dicing data to measure performance against those goals and support storytelling to our stakeholders.
- Executive communications: Craft influential executive communications across many mediums (newsletter, blog, presentations, reports) and summarize business impacts of the organization. Able to create strong narratives and messaging for a wide variety of audiences.
