The Role:
Neo is looking for a full-time Senior Legal Counsel to join our team in Calgary, AB. This is a unique opportunity to support a broad range of practice areas including Neo’s commercial, regulatory employment privacy matters. What you’ll be doing:
- Provide strategic and legal advice on a broad range of practice areas including corporate/commercial, regulatory, employment and privacy matters
- Independently structure, draft, negotiate and review complex commercial and relationship agreements with third parties, including identifying legal and business risks and collaborating on solutions
- Anticipate and address legal issues to protect the interests of Neo and reduce exposure to legal risks
- Draft internal policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with legal requirements
- Support legal updates to all customer facing disclosures and agreements
- Develop and maintain form agreements, contract management systems, and other databases
- Develop and implement processes for efficient and streamlined operations surrounding contract negotiation
- Conduct legal research and provide concise and fit for purpose legal advice to internal stakeholders, in a timely manner
- Manage external legal counsel, as required
Who we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (L.LB) or Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- A member of, or eligible for membership in, the Law Society of Alberta
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in either private practice or in-house with experience in one or more of following practice areas: corporate/commercial, regulatory, consumer protection, employment or privacy
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the banking, fintech or financial services sectors
- Proven ability to think strategically and provide business units with concise analysis and recommendations
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
- Strong organization and time management skills and the ability to meet short deadlines and prioritize work
