We are looking for a seasoned Sr. Engineering Manager to provide technical and people leadership to lead all of our UI efforts at Marqeta. This includes the Marqeta Dashboard app and embeddable components and applications for cardholders. This leader will be at the forefront of Marqeta’s efforts in creating modern web applications used by hundreds of thousands of cardholders.

What you'll do

  • Partner with product teams to define the strategy for customer and cardholder experiences at Marqeta.
  • Define & provide technical leadership for Marqeta’s modern web based application development
  • Oversee and drive the technical vision for web and mobile front-end platforms, ensuring scalability, usability, security and efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging best practices and advocating for innovative technologies
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality software by employing effective code reviews, automated testing strategies and high availability deployment strategies.
  • Raise the skill sets of those around you and make Marqeta better through your presence. Mentor other engineers on the team, drawing on your experience to provide thoughtful direction.
  • Apply and evangelize modern best practices in your software designs and implementations.
  • Establish and promote best practices across cross-functional teams.
  • Initiate conversations around goal setting and give regular feedback and coaching to your team members.

What we're looking for

  • 12+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • Demonstrated passion for software engineering excellence including design principles, metrics, front end scalability, cost, security & privacy considerations and test driven development.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication and leadership skills. Can effectively lead a project and work cross-functionally with other organizations.
  • Experience partnering with product teams to ideate and bring innovative solutions to market.
  • Expertise in developing and scaling applications using modern front end technologies such as Web Components, React, React Native / Flutter, Javascript, Node.js and ecosystem.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.

Nice to haves

  • Experience working in Payments in either issuing or acquirer domain.
  • Hands-on experience building embedded components that users can customize.
  • Experience with authentication solutions such as Auth0.
  • Exposure to a modern Java backend stack using Spring Boot, Kubernetes on AWS and Javascript with React and GraphQL on the frontend.
  • Experience with transactional RDBMS such as MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL Server, or Oracle.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

  • National: $140,000 - $189,000
  • Premium: $159,000 - $213,000
  • Premium Plus: $177,000 - $236,000
