About the Role
Coalition’s Legal and Compliance Department is seeking an experienced and highly-motivated Compliance Associate to join its fast-moving and growing team. The Compliance Associate will be responsible for working with other legal and compliance professionals in monitoring and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and procedures throughout Coalition’s organization. The successful candidate will handle a full range of regulatory and compliance matters and serve as a key partner to provide advice to the legal and compliance team, business partners and insurance and corporate functions. Reporting to Coalition’s sole Senior Compliance Manager, the candidate will be able to work independently in a fast paced and changing environment, with the ability to flex with shifting responsibilities and priorities, and have demonstrated relationship building capabilities, strong operational skills, interpersonal skills, and analytical capabilities.
This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Participate in development and review of a comprehensive compliance framework for the organization, including policies and procedures relating to compliance with specific emphasis on general corporate compliance
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulatory requirements, promoting the organization's commitment to compliance
- Assess risks and identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability throughout the enterprise
- Communicate regulatory changes to business partners and aids in designing solutions to mitigate risk in support of compliant practices
- Participate in corrective action plans developed through business unit self-audits and Compliance audits. Tests and validates corrective actions to confirm mitigation plans have been properly implemented
- Interpret regulations and compliance related requirements by reviewing regulatory bulletins and utilizing a variety of research tools
- Participate in preparing materials and information required in response to internal and external regulatory audits and assists in preparing communication of responses for regulatory compliance audits
- Assist with state issued data calls and surveys relevant to business and industry practices
- Prepare accurate and timely responses to insurance consumer complaints received from the State Department of Insurance, social media and direct from consumers
- Participate in renewing all necessary individual and company licenses and appointments for P&C, Surplus Lines and Adjuster license types
- Advise on licensing requirements and monitors license renewals and expirations
- Process and manage new license applications as needed
- Interact professionally and communicates clearly with a diverse group of individuals including executives, managers, business partners, and external regulatory personnel and demonstrates a willingness, cooperation and concern for business issues
- Ability to communicate thoughts/designs/ideas in an explicit manner and adjust communication based on audience
- Help to design, execute and/or support compliance training
- Manage workload, prioritize, and elevate issues where appropriate with little direction
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to research regulatory requirements, communicate those requirements to business and offer solutions to the business on those requirements
- Solid background in cross functional team work; experience working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated adoption of a growth mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
- Proven interpersonal, communication, analytical and project management skills
- Self-directed and able to prioritize competing deadlines while remaining focused and organized
- Able to effectively interact with multiple levels of staff and state regulatory authorities
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a team setting
- Works well in globally located team situations
- 3-5 years property and casualty insurance industry commercial and specialty lines experience preferred; demonstrated ability to perform legal research of statutory/regulatory requirements
- Insurance related compliance experience in risk assessment, testing and monitoring including knowledge of business processes and technologies desired
- Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- P&C industry and/or Compliance professional designation, certification or membership preferred
- Proficient in Office 365 tools, Google Suite

- Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $71,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $95,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
